Toilet Paper Roll Bowling

Hey everyone,
On rainy days we are always looking for something to do inside to stay active. One day my kids and I decided to try bowling but we did not have any bowling pins. So we used empty toilet paper rolls for our pins. If you don't have a bowling ball instead use a small soccer ball like we did, a rolled up pair of socks or any ball that you might have. Setup your pins or toilet paper rolls then roll two times to see how many pins you can knock down. Have fun and keep checking my blog for some other toilet paper roll games and activities.

Week 3 PE Lesson Core Strength

This week we are focusing on our core strength. We will be doing a workout similar to a Tabata workout except that you will be performing each abdominal movement for 30 seconds with a 20 second rest in between. In this workout there are 6 different abdominal moves you will perform.

For Example: you will do as many Snitches catches as you can for 30 seconds, 20 rest, Dobby crunches for 30 seconds, 20 second rest, Weasley wiggles for 30 seconds, 20 second rest, Remus reaches for 30 seconds, 20 second rest, Albus Ab kicks for 30 seconds, 20 second rest, Diagon Abs for 30 seconds.

This workout is from Glenn Higgins. Glenn Higgins is a fitness traitor who sets his workouts to different movie themed backgrounds for example Batman, Star Wars and Harry Potter. If you are interested in other workouts you can find him on Youtube.

Try to do 3 sets of the workout. You can do this all at once or spread the workout throughout the week. Know what is best for your body.

There are two videos you can watch. The first video is the actual workout with a clock and the second video is all the modifications for the first video's workout.

Below is the second video that has the modifications for the Harry Potter week 3 Ab workout.

The Eastman Indoor Obstacle Course

In my past post I said I would create an indoor course well here is the indoor Eastman obstacle course I setup with my two kids. We used things we had around the house to create the obstacles.
If you create your own course or obstacle I would love to see it. Take a picture, video or even draw what your obstacle or course looks like and send it to me. I could post what you all create. Miss you all. Have fun and be creative.

The Eastman Outdoor Obstacle Course

One day I was looking around my garage and mini barn to see what we had that I could use to make some balance obstacles for my kids. I had decided to do this because I needed more ideas of things to do with my kids outside. We found some wood that was left over scraps and built some beams, ladder beam, a box jump and even a little bridge. Today I decided to take the girls out and add to our course. I found some more old wood and rocks. We came up with the Eastman obstacle course. This is just an idea of something you can do with someone at home or on your own. Use what you have around the house. In my next video I am going to be creating an indoor obstacle course. If you create a course or an obstacle that you want me to see email me at elizabeth.eastman@colchestersd.org. If I get some pictures or even drawings of your obstacles I would love to share them on my blog. We are in this together everyone. Help share an idea of creativity.

Oh the things you could see part 3

While out for a walk with my dad the other day I was surprised by two snakes that crossed our path.  I noticed them way before my dad did and I am not surprised that I noticed them first because I am not a big fan of snakes. One was on the bike path and the other was waiting in the grass. Eventually my dad finally sees them as they slithered very quickly across the bike path and up the rocks on the other side.
Well when I came home and showed the girls the sake video they said they wanted to go see the snakes. So the next day we went out and while walking I noticed a small caterpillar that my older daughter almost drove over with her jeep. I don't usually notice small things like this but for some reason lately I have been noticing a lot more. With being able to notice these things more often I have been able to see somethings I have never seen before. Learn from me take advantage of this time and notice the small things.
If you are out and you see something interesting please email me a picture or a write up about what you saw. (elizabeth.eastman@colchestersd.org)

Lunch Bus Notes

I feel so lucky to be in a district that supplies lunch to all their students. Not only is the food amazing but the motivational notes that have been showing up are incredible. They make me smile every time we open a bag. Thank you so much to all the volunteers who help make this food program happen.

Oh the things you could see part 2

I know a lot of my students have been getting out hiking, walking or playing by a river. When you are out make sure you pay attention to the things around you. You never know what you might get to see. I found this painted rock under a tree next to the bike path and again I saw another beaver during my walks. If you see something interesting and would like to share a picture or comment about what you see. Please email me the picture or description (elizabeth.eastman@colchestersd.org). Once I get some responses I would love to write a post about what my students have been seeing.

The ground is lava challenge

I was out for a walk the other day and I came across this great challenge a kid wrote on the bike path. I couldn't resist trying it myself. I love seeing kids getting out, being active and being creative. Thank you to whoever wrote this on the bike path.

Classic Hopscotch with some challenges

Do you remember hopscotch? Well you can play the traditional game or you an try some of these challenges. My youngest tried to do them with me.

Milk Carton Tiny Golf

Here is another activity you can do with those milk cartons from the school bus lunches. If you don't have milk cartons you can use toilet paper rolls. This is can be played on the floor or setup on a table. This is game that I found online and I modified it for what materials I had around my house. Instead of a spoon and pom pom you could just use a plastic bottle cap and your fingers. You could flick the pom pom or cap into the tiny golf hole. More videos to come.
