Sidewalk Chalk Course

With the warmer weather finally here I am sure lots of our Ospreys will be getting outside and playing. I saw a great video where another PE teacher combined sidewalk chalk and exercising. Using sidewalk chalk they drew a path to follow that had different exercises to do at different stopping points. My daughter and I decided to try this out ourselves. The only thing we did differently was that we focused our path or course on hopping and walking.

My oldest thought it would be great to try and do the course on her bike.

Chicken Hopscotch

My daughter and I were playing hopscotch the other day when my youngest threw a pretend chicken at us and it landed on one of the boxes. My oldest hopped out to get it and hopped back. She said we should start tossing the chicken and then hop out to it and bring it back. So we did this for a little while. Then I thought about one of her PE teachers lesson for the week. In his lesson he added a fitness consequence to his throwing game. When he missed a throw he would have to do jumping jacks. I decided to use that same idea and add it to our game. You will in the video that Avery would get three tosses. If the chicken landed in a box. She would hop out and hop back. We also added numbers to our boxes. If the number in the box was 5 I would have to do 5 jumping jacks. I could do them either right away or wait until she was done tossing. If I choose to wait I have make sure to add up the points and do the same number of jacks to her points. For example: if the chicken landed in 5, 7, and 2. I would have to do 14 total jumping jacks. If the chicken doesn't land in a box that would be zero. You can do any exercise push ups, lounges, sit ups, squats, laps around the house or burpees.
We hope you like this game.

Active Ospreys Part 2

Some of our Ospreys have been getting out and being adventurous. Being adventurous can mean trying new things or getting out and looking for fun. There are so many things you could see when you have an adventure. You might see some animals or even some crazy trees. What have you seen during an adventure? Or what kinds of new things have you tried that feel like an adventure. Something new for me is a website called Pablet. It is an online bulletin board where students and families can post pictures or short blurbs of ways they have stayed active. If you would like to share a picture or blurb feel free to click here to access and post on my PE Shark Padlet page.

Oh the things you could see part 4

Over the last few weekends it has finally felt nice enough to get back out for an adventure. The Eastman adventures have taken us to the Winooski river where we saw spiders, frogs and birds. They have also taken us out for more bike rides (well my kids bike and I walk because Maddie is still learning to bike). Our adventures have also taken us to a path I have never walked on before. This past weekend we went on the path a crossed from the village scoop. While we were out I saw a very unique rock that caught my eye. What have you been seeing when you are getting out for an adventure? If you would to share a picture you can email it to me or you could add it to my Padlet board. Padlet is an online bulletin board where students can post a picture or short blurb. I would love to see what adventures or active things you have been doing.

Toilet Paper Roll Activities

Hey MBS Ospreys,
Here are some different activities or games you could do with empty toilet paper rolls. In a previous post I mentioned toilet paper roll bowling. You could stack with them and see what you can create or see how tall you could build a tower.

You can use them as targets for kicking, throwing etc...
